University of Indianapolis assistant football coach Kenny Ray Augustus spent a part of his summer with the National Football League's San Diego Chargers as part of the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship.  Augustus was among 96 minority coaches – including 43 former NFL players– to participate in this summer's fellowship.

Football ready to kickoff season Thursday

On tap:  UIndy opens its 2010 schedule with a Thursday non-conference road trip to Kentucky Wesleyan this week.  The Greyhounds are looking to open the season with a win for the sixth straight year.  UIndy has won 13 of its past 14 openers.  Thursday’s contest with KWC will be the season-opener for both clubs.

INDIANAPOLIS-  The University of Indianapolis football team is just over a week away from its season opener and the team has selected its 2010 co-captains as voted on by their teammates.  Senior Craig Ray and sophomore Andrew Mansaray have been chosen to fill the captaincy roles for the Greyhounds under first-year head coach Bob Bartolomeo.

Football ranked 10th in preseason league poll

BAY CITY, Mich.-  The 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Preseason Football Coaches Poll was released Wednesday with the University of Indianapolis slotted 10th among the 14 schools.  UIndy is coming off a 4-7 season in 2009, but returns a bulk of the league's top-ranked defense and plenty of playmakers on offense to make a run at the top of the standings.

Ray named Preseason All-American
INDIANAPOLIS-  Senior defensive back Craig Ray has been named to the 2010 Consensus Draft Services Division II Preseason All-America Second Team, according to a recent release.  Ray returns for his final season in a Greyhound uniform as one of the leaders of a team that led the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in total defense last season.

Dury invited to Rams mini camp
INDIANAPOLIS-  The St. Louis Rams have invited former Greyhound Tim Dury to their mini-camp starting this week, according to his agent.  Dury was a First Team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference offensive lineman last season and was a participant in the Cactus Bowl, an NCAA Division II Senior All-Star game.

Football Spring game set for Saturday
INDIANAPOLIS-  The Greyhound football team, under the direction of new head coach Bob Bartolomeo, will wrap-up its 15-date slate with the annual spring scrimmage on April 17 at Key Stadium at 3:30 p.m.  The scrimmage will be followed by the annual alumni flag football game under the lights.

Geller earns NFF honor
Former Greyhound Stephen Geller was honored by the Central Indiana Chapter of the National Football Foundation at the organization's annual banquet last month.  After also being recognized as a prep at Avon High School by the Foundation, Geller was one of two Indiana college athletes honored at the affair, along with A.J. Edds (Iowa/Greenwood H.S.)

Bartolomeo fills out staff
INDIANAPOLIS-  New head football coach Bob Bartolomeo has completed his football staff with the announcement of the hiring of two assistants.  Former UIndy quarterback Casey Gillin has been promoted from a graduate assistant post and will be the quarterbacks coach and Kevin Lynch has been hired as the team's new wide receivers coach.

UIndy's 2010 signing class includes 17 student-athletes
INDIANAPOLIS-  UIndy Head Football Coach Bob Bartolomeo announced his 2010 signing class on the first day of the NCAA signing period Feb. 3.  The class includes 17 student-athletes from Indiana, Illinois and Ohio committed to enroll and play football for the Greyhounds in the fall.
