SAINT JOSEPH, Mo.-  Senior Megan Russell was named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Second Team All-American for the second straight season at the organization's annual banquet preceeding the NCAA Championships Wednesday.  Russell also picked-up Daktronics Third Team All-America accolades this week, the third time she's garnered recognition from that outfit.

DETROIT, Mich.--  Each team was scheduled to play just one game on the opening day of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional softball tournament Friday at Wayne State, but Saginaw Valley State and Indianapolis dueled for a doubleheader's-worth of innings before a victor emerged.  After 13 straight scoreless innings, the Cardinals plated three to earn the 3-0 win in the first game of the four-team, double-elimination bracket.

On Tap:  The University of Indianapolis softball team has advanced ot the NCAA Division II tournament and will take the fourth-seed in the Midwest Region into this weekend’s four-team regional.  The eight teams are split into two four-team sub-regionals with the top seed (Wayne State) hosting No. 4, 5 and 8.  Ashland, the No. 2 seed, will host the remaining four teams with the winners advancing to next weekend’s NCAA Super Regional.

EAST PEORIA, Ill.-  The Greyhound softball team got a walk-off homer to advance in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships Saturday, but had the tables turned on them in the next round, losing via walk-off to bow out of the double-elimination tourney Saturday at EastSide Centre.  Senior Megan Russell completed a wild comeback with a two-run homer for a 5-3 win over Missouri S&T in the day's first game, but a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Wisconsin-Parkside a 6-5 victory in the second loser's bracket game of the day.

EAST PEORIA, Ill.-  Senior Megan Russell led the Greyhounds to a 4-2 win over Southern Indiana in the opening round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament.  The Hounds, however, fell 3-1 to Northern Kentucky in game two Friday to drop down to the elimination bracket Saturday.

Top Dogs:  The Greyhound softball team has earned the top seed in the 2010 Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament, marking the first time in school history that UIndy will be the #1 seed.  With a regular-season-ending sweep of Quincy, UIndy swapped positions with the Hawks and grabbed the pole position.  The Hounds are in search of their first league crown.
