NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its 2009 Division II Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Scholar Athletes of the Year Monday and three Greyhounds adorn the list.  Courtney Kuzmicz, Emily Schaf and Amy Schmitz all garnered recognition from the organization for their dedication in the classroom in addition to their exploits on the competition field.

INDIANAPOLIS-  University of Indianapolis student-athlete Emily Schaf has been named to the College Sports Information Directors Association of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America® Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Third Team, according to an announcement made public Friday.  Schaf becomes the 42nd Academic All-America honoree at UIndy and the 30th since 2000.

INDIANAPOLIS-  Three more UIndy students have earned Great Lakes Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, announced by league officials Friday.  Justin Hueber (men's golf), Lyndsay McBride (women's golf) and Emily Schaf (women's track & field) were each selected for this prestigious award, bringing the total of UIndy Scholar-Athletes this year to six after Brian Fishback (men's soccer), Abby Tracy (women's soccer) and Kyleigh Turner (volleyball) received distinction in the fall.

INDIANAPOLIS-  Emily Schaf was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team as voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), released Thursday.  Schaf will now advance to the All-America ballot, scheduled for release June 19.

SAN ANGELO, Texas-  The Greyhound track and field teams added five more All-Americans at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships on the campus of Angelo State University.  The UIndy women finished in a tie for 15th as a team while the men tied for 31st place.

INDIANAPOLIS-  Eight track and field athletes will represent the University of Indianapolis at the 2009 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships May 21-23 in San Angelo, Texas, according to an official release Tuesday.  The Greyhound throwers represent seven of the eight, three men and four women.

INDIANAPOLIS-  The OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon was not the only running event in downtown Indianapolis Saturday.  Under the shadow of the largest half-marathon in the nation, the 2009 Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships were held at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on the campus of IUPUI.  The UIndy women (pictured) took the team title while their male counterparts placed second.

INDIANAPOLIS-  Seniors Amy Schmitz and Andrea Horban highlighted an impressive showing at the Stan Lyons Invite at the Michael A. Carroll Track and Field Stadium on the campus of IUPUI Saturday.  Schmitz grabbed a new school record in the hammer throw with a winning and automatic NCAA-qualifying heave of 57.07 meters while Horban finished in the top 20 in all four events in which she competed, provisionally-qualifying in two.
