UIndy 68, Ferris State 62
OWENSBORO, Ky.- The University of Indianapolis women’s basketball team overcame a seven-point halftime deficit on its way to a 68-62 win versus Ferris State Sunday at the KWC Classic. UIndy held its opponents to just 27 points after the break while forcing 25 turnovers in all to improve its record to a spotless 5-0 on the season.
After defeating host Kentucky Wesleyan 83-77 Saturday, Ferris State (1-1) went 11-for-11 from the foul line in the first half Sunday to help build a 35-28 halftime advantage. Down 15-10 eight minutes into the game, the Bulldogs scored 11 straight points to seize control.
Early in the second, FSU upped its lead to a game-high nine points, forcing a UIndy timeout with 12:26 left in the contest. With the score 47-38 Bulldogs, the Greyhounds scored the next 10 points to take their first lead in more than 22 minutes of play. Junior transfer
Heather Rourk started the run with back-to-back lay-ups and finished the game with 11 points.
Ten lead changes followed as the teams traded buckets down the stretch. With the score knotted at 59 apiece and 90 seconds remaining, UIndy finished strongly with a 9-3 run, with the Bulldogs’ only points coming on a three pointer on the game’s final possession.

Jessica Canary (pictured) just missed her fourth career double-double with 19 points, nine rebounds and two steals, an effort that included a 6-for-6 showing at the stripe. Sophomore
Samantha Meissel joined Canary and Rourk in double figures by scoring 12, while junior
Katie Dewey totaled seven points, five boards and four steals.
After a 36-point performance that included a school record eight three-pointers in yesterday’s win , FSU senior Teghan Thelen led all players with 26 points.
UIndy has one more road game before its home opener this Saturday. The Hounds head to Oakland City Wednesday, Nov. 19 for a 7 pm contest against the Lady Oaks.
