NOBLESVILLE, Ind.- In less than ideal conditions, the University of Indianapolis men’s golf team (320-304) placed third among a talented 18-team field at the 2009 Ken Partridge UIndy Invitational/NCAA Division II Preview.  The teams battled strong wind gusts yesterday and chilly temperatures Monday and Tuesday at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind., site of the 2010 NCAA D-II Championship.

UIndy was led by senior Seth Fair (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg).  The all-region performer shared third place in the 93-man field, thanks in part to seven birdies and a tournament-low -3 score on the par fives.

Fellow senior Kyle Miller (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) carded a three-over 75 in Tuesday’s final round on the way to sharing 19th place.  Junior Blair Webb (Avon, Ind./Avon) matched Miller’s round-two score to finish with a 158 and tie for 25th.

Sophomore Aaron Monson (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) tied for 38th with a 160 (80-80) and Ryan Myers (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) carded a 163 (82-81) to share 49th.

Indianapolis fielded a second five-man squad, featuring Brad Abel (Nappanee, Ind./Northwood).  The senior helped the “Grey” team to a two-day score of 672 (339-333) with his efforts of 85 and 80, good for 53rd place individually.

The 13th-ranked Greyhounds were among a host of national powers at the event, including defending-national-champion and fourth-ranked Sonoma State.  Seventh-ranked Central Oklahoma was also at the event, but it was Central Missouri that topped them all.

UCM placed three golfers in the top six to win the team title with a score of 610 (309-301).  Washburn’s Riley Piles carded a 148 (75-73) to take medalist’s honors, one stroke ahead of Lewis’ Casey Pyne (76-73).

Note:  Of the 186 rounds posted at the two-day event, only two ended up under par, as  Bellarmine’s Doug Wilkinson (T-6th) and Indiana PA’s Gavin Smith (T-19th) each carded a 71 Tuesday.
